Giulietti
Custom Special Accordion - One of a Kind!
Dear
Accordion Friends,
This is one of the
most intriguing and fascinating accordions that I have seen and played.
I couldn't resist the temptation to own it once I looked at some
pictures. Being able to feel and play it brought my excitement to a
whole new level. I would describe this Giulietti accordion as the
ultimate instrument for an orchestra setting. Another perfect
application would be for a recording musician who would like to overlay
a solo part with acoustic bass part, harmony, and even unique acoustic
effects. The amount of features is almost overwhelming. Think about
having several different instruments:
- 4/5 reed LMMH full size accordion with tone chambered
bassoon and beautiful musette tuning
- Bass accordion with a special oversized reeds that play one
octave below the standard bassoon set and are located in the tone
chamber for a fast full response. You can play either these reeds alone
or in a combination with the standard bassoon reeds for octaves effect.
Use it in an orchestra or to record a bass line for your arrangements.
- MIDI accordion with absolutely unique MIDI mixer that
allows you to control two MIDI arrangers independently. This was
revolutionary in the 1990s and to this day remains a rare feature only available by special request. The grill controller is fully programmed.
I plugged the instrument to an Orla module and it used it to its full
capabilities. In fact, I was never able to manually select various
features from the Orla as good as they have been programmed on this
instrument. You can recall right from the grill 99 different
registrations, each one with its own rhythms, orchestral sounds and
effect.
Now
imagine the 3 accordions described above combined in one powerful
instrument that will allow you a full array of synergistic capabilities
like 22 different treble sounds, nine of them absolutely
unique and not available on ANY other bass or regular accordion.
For example, you have a classic harmonium reed combination (LMH)
as well as L'LM reed configuration where L' is an octave
below the bassoon (L) reeds. In a sense you can transpose the full
range of the harmonium an octave lower and this way extend the range of
this switch over almost 5 octaves. In a similar way you can extend the
tonal range of the standard bassoon, clarinet, bandonion, oboe, organ
switches as well as create absolutely unique reed combinations
like L'L, L'M, L'H, L'LMM etc. (see the close-up picture
of the treble switches for all possibilities). Having these unique
acoustic sounds will empower your creativity and imagination and you
will not want to stop playing the instrument. Well, it weighs 32 lb and
you might need a break once in a while. Compared to the 33-35 lb bayans
and classical accordions with extended keyboards this Giulietti feels
much better balanced. By the way, you can cover a wider range than the
45-keys extended keyboard converter accordions and compete with the
range of chromatic concert accordions.
All
reeds are hand made and have genuine leather valves. The mechanics is
flawless. The white pearl body, the grill rhinestones, and the chrome
plated bass switches reflect the light and captivate the
audience. The striking reversed key colors and dark blue
bellows add to the unique look of the accordion and enhance its charm.
If you have played the Giulietti Classic 127 you know what to
expect from this accordion acoustically. Actually, this particular
instrument is like the Classic 127 on steroids since the body geometry
naturally amplified the sound enhancing not only its intensity but also
the depth and overall spectral range (overtones).
Here is a summary of the features:
- Made in Italy in the 1990s
- Hand made reeds
- 5 treble sets of reeds - L'LM1M2H
- 5 sets of bass reeds - low A! - cathedral sound
effect from the Bass Tone Chamber
- The M2 clarinet reeds are musette tuned
- Double
Tone Chamber
(L'L)
- Full size professional keyboard - 41 walnut
keys, 24 keys with black Lucite finish and 17 chromatic keys with white
pearl finish
- 21 treble switches plus Pal Master for 22 different treble sounds,
some of them absolutely unique. Please, see my description above and
the photographs for the specific reed combinations assigned to each
switch.
- 120 pearl bass buttons - very friendly layout and
excellent action
- 7 bass
registers with spotless chrome plating
- Dark blue bellows lined in black with excellent
compression. You would need to open it half of the way compared to a
normal 4-reed accordion due to the larger depth of the bellows folds
and the wider body of the accordion.
- Master
MIDI with a very friendly and fully programmed grill controller, MIDI
mixer, and all cables and instruction document - all
tested and works perfect
- The accordion weighs 32 lb. It
is definitely not a "strolling" instrument. However, if you play seated
you will be pleasantly surprised by the excellent balance of the
instrument and the relative ease of handling. My first session with it
lasted more than 3 hours and felt like an instant. There is so much to
explore both acoustically and with the electronics.
- Excellent (new) shoulder straps
- Original hard-shell case and a special custom made leader
case for the MIDI accessories
